My husband and I along with family members including 2 small children stayed in this house in July 2015. The location is excellent, you are in the village and can walk to a variety of pubs and restaurants which we found a great bonus. The bedrooms are excellent, the two upstairs rooms are huge and both en suite, the living room and dining room are also excellent. This is a great area, we would recommend the Burren Perfumery for a lovely visit, all the attractions locally are very well worth a visit.

We have rented the house on several occasions for both family and friends. The most recent was for my (now) wife's family when we got married in the village last September. The house is immaculately clean and comfortable. The bedrooms are large, and the living area is perfect for a family gathering. Also, it is so convenient to walk into the village to the shops, restaurants and bars. We will definitely use the house again. Our highest recommendation.
  • Karen, Dublin - 2015
Beautiful spacious house packed full of everything you need for a great holiday. We had a fortnight from 20th December 2014 and loved every minute in this lovely house and great town. Even when we had all the family and friends visit there was plenty of space for all to enjoy the festivities. The bedrooms are a treat with 5 star luxury bedding adding that extra special feel to this gorgeous well kept house. Ballyvaughan has loads of great pubs, restaurants and the locals are very friendly. The town has an excellent tourist information centre and shop (open all year) and a well stocked Spar shop with deli. The house is a short walk from everything and a short drive to Bishops Quarter beach for great walks in the sand dunes. The garden is well kept and landscaped with benches for picnic (not used in December but would be lovely for BBQ in Summer months.) The Italian restaurant is great, as are Logues Lodge and Monks Bar for food. Rita is an excellent host and we loved all her extra nice touches for Christmas. We will be returning to Ballyvaughan again.

I spent two weeks at Knocknagrough House in May 2015 along with my two daughters and their babies, ages 8 and 16 months respectively. The location on the edge of the village was perfect for our needs. With its mature garden, the house is secluded without being isolated. It's a five/ten minute walk to pubs and restaurants and there's a footpath all the way, so you can safely push a baby in a stroller.
Rita, the home owner, gave us a lovely warm welcome and kindly sourced a baby crib and high chair on request. The house itself is a delight and of a much higher standard of accommodation than your average holiday home. It is bright, spacious, spotlessly clean, very warm and has a decent kitchen. Two of the four bedrooms and a bathroom are on the ground floor, which I appreciated as I have a disability.
The landscape is the main attraction in this region but even if you get less than ideal weather, there's lots to see nearby - the Ailwee caves, Hazel Mountain chocolate factory, the Burren perfumery. We ate very well locally at An Fear Gorta tea rooms by the harbour (try their beef tagine), in L'Arco, in Hylands Hotel and at Cassidy's pub in Carron village. L'Arco, in particular, are very family friendly and you can also order a takeout of nice, freshly cooked food from them. There's a farmer's market on Saturdays throughout the summer in the community hall with lots of goodies for sale.
We had a wonderful time and will be back at Knocknagrough House at the first opportunity.

Knocknagrough House was a wonderful place to base ourselves for exploring Ireland's countryside. The house is clean and spacious. It's only a few minutes walk from pubs and restaurants and the beautiful country and small towns of Ireland. We had a great time and recommend the house to anyone.

Within a day you felt right at home, stopping to ask directions I was told " Oh, you mean Rita's house." And the feelings continued throughout a two week stay. The house is perfectly situated in Ballyvaughan, a small village in a country of villages. A short walk for a coffee and scone on the way to Galway Bay, walking along the piers to see the patterns the wind has left on the surface of the water. Everything was within reach, we took a long day drive to Glemcollum Cille, in westernmost County Donegal - a true testament to the advantage of the cottage's location in northeast County Clare. Plus, a very short walk to the villages restaurants and pubs let's you leave the car at home. A real advantage when comparing Powers and Connemara Irish whiskeys. The house itself took care of everything. Enough space to move around, a nice kitchen with room to cook and prepare a meal should you stay at home. Sometimes I catch the details, the thermal pane windows helped keep the temperatures warm. With everyone's busy schedule I had to leave a portion of the rent with the coffee cups, it was very refreshing to be a part of the family right away. By the way, the sugar bowl mails the receipts! Should I have the good fortune to visit again, I will be in touch with Rita.
  • Felicity, UK - 2014
This delightful house was our holiday home earlier this year - and we cannot speak highly enough of the hostess, the comfortable and well equipped property, set within easy walking distance of the shops and pubs. Would definitely consider for another Ballyvaughan holiday.
  • E Lennon, Dublin - 2013
From the outset Rita the owner was extremely friendly, professional and helpful to deal with. We had a large family booking with young children and a baby. Rita could not have been more helpful. On our arrival we found the house spacious and clean with fresh flowers which smelled beautiful. The house is in an excellent location in the village but removed from the hussel and noise which was important with young kids. There is a large garden with gates to lock so the kids were secure playing outside. We had the best week with beautiful weather and family. Thank you Rita we will return again.
  • Paula, Cork - 2013
We stayed in Ballyvaughan during the Easter holidays 2012.Our group comprised 4 adults and 4 children. The house was extremely spacious and had a great location within walking distance of the village. Ballvaughan itself has some lovely pubs and a beautiful tearooms which opened at the beginning of the Easter holidays. We found the staff in the tourist office to be very helpful. They gave us details of looped walks in the vicinity. The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, and ferries to the Aran Islands were all easily accessible. We also made a day trip to Galway city.I have no hesitation in recommending Knocknagrough
  • Katie , Dublin - 2013
I've stayed in Knocknagrough twice and really can't recommend this gorgeous holiday home enough! The location is perfect, just 5 minutes walking distance to the shops and pubs of Ballyvaughan, while the house itself is very spacious, with all the mod-cons and facilities you would ever need. The really special thing about this holiday home is the first-class customer service and the beautiful decor: I have honestly never stayed somewhere where the owner has put in some much effort and attention to detail. The perfect place to stay for a trip to Clare, you will NOT be disappointed!
  • Marleen , Dublin - 2012
We rented Knocknagrough house on the lead up to my wedding. Having never rented a holiday home, I did not know what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. The house is lovely both inside and out. Inside the house is very spacious, there were 8 adullts staying there but it never felt crowded. It really felt like a home from home with so many comforts on hand. The house is also in an excellent location for touring around the burren, it was so nice to come back somewhere homely and relax after a long days sightseeing . Rita the owner could not do enough for us. I would highly recommend staying here.

My mother, sister and nephews stayed at Knocknagrough House in November 2012. We loved this accommodation and the convenience for walking around Ballyvaughan. There are four bedrooms, three baths, kitchen, laundry room and living room with a small fireplace. Very well kept and nice furnishings. There are two bedrooms on the second floor with bathrooms en suite/and two bedrooms on the main floor that share a bathroom. The beds very comfortable too! A very nice view of the local church is just out the front door. Thank you Rita and Fiona for your warm welcome when we arrived. We truly loved our stay at your home in Ballyvaughan, County Clare!
  • Niamh, Greystones - 2012
We stayed with our toddler and my in-laws. The house is very handy to the village and has 4 spacious bedrooms, 2 of which are en suite and upstairs. The other 2 are downstairs with a bathroom in between them. The house was comfortable, and had plenty of crockery etc, though the selection of kitchen equipment was a bit hit and miss so if you're planning a lot of cooking you might want to bring some of your own equipment. We had a lovely relaxing time. There's plenty of outdoor space for kids to run around. When any issues arose the owner quickly resolved them. The house had very good central heating.
  • Noel, Greystones - 2012
I stayed here for a week with my wife, baby son and elderly parents. There was lots of space in the house for us all (and my sis who also stayed one night with us). Also, the house was well furnished and equipped - the bedrooms were particularly nice. From the moment we arrived, we were delighted we had chosen to stay here - nothing changed our opinion during our stay. I hate it when you plan a holiday, arrive where you've decided to stay and are disappointed - nothing worse. I don't see how this could happen to anyone who chooses to rent this house. It was just as advertised - a spacious, well decorated house right in the town within walking distance of all local amenities - great! Also, if we needed to contact the owner prior to booking or during our stay, messages were promptly responded to and any questions etc. were quickly dealt with.

We stayed in Knocknagrough House for a week in July with two teenagers and two younger children and we found it to be a perfect base for visiting places of interest in Clare and Galway. It was spotlessly clean and the size of the bedrooms, along with the two ensuite bathrooms, helped keep the peace when all six of us were in the house together! One of the things we liked best about the house was the proximity to Ballyvaughan's shops and restaurants. It was great to be able to walk to buy milk or to have a meal in literally less than five minutes. All in all, we were delighted with Knocknagrough House and would recommend it to others. Thanks Rita!
  • Steve, Napanee, Canada - 2012
Extremely well-maintained house and property - clean and very comfortable. All the amenities of home in a setting of breathtaking scenery. Walking distance to several pubs and a grocery store. My wife and two adult children thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property to anyone considering a holiday on the west coast of Ireland, as many attractions are within easy driving distance.

What a wonderful way to have a first time introduction to Ireland. Knockgrarough House is so much more than a cottage. It has all the amenities one could want as a base for exploring Ireland's west coast and the Burren. It has comfortable lounge and dining room and plenty of room for 8 and is wonderfully equipped for taking meals in and doing a bit of laundry. It is within walking distance to pubs, restaurants and shops. Ballyvaughan and the people are charming and friendly. A wonderful experience!
  • Sue Gauger , Des Moines, IA - 2011
What a wonderful vacation bargin. The house is immaculate, the location is superb, and the village is absolutely charming. I have traveled widely and rarely experience such a treasure in vacation rental homes. You will fall in love and want to return again and again.
  • Tony & Michelle Meehan , London, UK - 2011
Just back from a most relaxing holiday at Knocknagrough House and the beautiful Burren in County Clare. The house is a real "home from home" and will meet anybody's needs from the spacious living accommodation and garden to the ample car parking. Located in the village of Ballyvaughan with it's great pubs and restaurants one couldn't ask for more when it comes to looking for an ideal holiday home and location. Give it try, you won't be disappointed.

Knocknagrough house was a fantastic place to base ourselves while exploring the Burren & North Clare. It was far from the basic amenities Irish Country Cottage I remembered from years ago. If you like to cook, you'll find an excellently kitchen with practically everything you need. We loved the fenced in garden, the lazyboy armchair, excellent shower (wife noted the hair dryers actually worked really well), short walk to the restaurants & pubs in town (try the Whiskey Pub). Loved the Burren & Ballyvaughan. This has to be the best place to stay there! Will definitely be back.
  • Hanna Kumpu , Lapland, Finland - 2011
My family and friends stayed at Knocknagrough house with our children and had absolutely wonderful holiday! House was perfect for us with four bedrooms (2 en-suite), spacious living room, kitchen & large garden for the kids to play. House is homely and clean, and above all located right in the village's centre - only couple of minutes walk from pubs, restaurant, shop and seafront. We had wonderful and relaxing holiday - and we can recommend the house sincerely! If you are planning on visiting beautiful village of Ballyvaughan this is a perfect house for you!

My husband and I stayed at knocknagrough house with our three children, heavenly. The house is perfect, spacious, homely, clean and situated right in the centre of beautiful ballyvaughan. Perfect for kids, the house has a large garden and is a few minutes walk from pubs, restaurants and seafront. We had such a wonderful time, we will definately return here again. If you plan on visiting ballyvaughan, stay here, you wont regret it!
  • Laura, Dublin - 2011
My girlfriend and a group of friends stayed here for two weeks last summer and had a fabulous time. The house is located in the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan in the heart of the Burren, just a short walk from lovely pubs, the pier, mini supermarket and 2km to the lovely beach. We met the lady owner on the first day who was so pleasant & gave us her recommendations for activities and restaurants. We were very impressed with the house- although its a holiday home, it had a lovely homely feel, was modern, and clean, all mod cons , lovely open fireplace in the sitting room & there's a nice garden area that you can take advantage of if you get the weather! We bought disposable BBQs on two nice evenings and tucked into some nice food outside. Two of our rooms had en suite bathrooms with showers & there's another large bathroom downstairs- rooms were lovely and big. One of the nicest holiday homes I have ever stayed in, hands down. Would also be suitable for families-plenty of space for children to play outside etc ballyvaughan is a lovely village- if you prefer you can use it as your base and travel by car along the coast, explore the Burren, or visit local villages such as lisdoonvarna, Fanore, Corofin & places of interest such as the Cliffs of Moher, Dolmen etc. We all had a wonderful time and will certainly return to this house. Highly recommend!

I want to thank you so very much for making our vacation wonderful in County Clare. Knocknagrough House is such a wonderful place, we would think of staying nowhere else next time when visiting the west of Ireland. On the way home, we were already talking about how we should return next year. The house was perfectly clean and the fireplace was magnificent with ample amount of room for everyone. With the sun shining, we could make use of some of lovely beaches round Ballyvaughan and views of the rock on the Burren were brilliant. With the new motorway to Galway, the trip from Dublin was only just over two hours.
  • Pat & Helen Lee, Nottingham, UK
We have had two visits to Knocknagrough House and have had a wonderful holiday each time. The house is brilliant for families as it is very well kept, warm and spacious with four large bedrooms and two with ensuite. The house is in a fantastic location as it is only a short stroll into the town. We will definittely want to book again when we visit Ireland.
  • Fraser Howitt, Wales
We've now visited Knocknagrough on five occasions. Each time we visit the house is warm and welcoming. The house is extremely spacious and very well appointed; also being within a few hundred yards of the village is a great plus point. Knocknagrough easily accommodates the six adults and two children we take along, it's more like a family home than a holiday house. Each year on our return we book Knocknagrough again for the following year - what more can I say!
  • Maeve Moran, Dublin, Ireland
All members of my party thoroughly enjoyed the stay in the beautiful surroundings (both inside the house and outside in the countryside!). One of the guests staying with me described your place as a "proper homely home away from home" which we have found over the past few years of renting houses in Ireland to be sometimes amiss. The decor, furniture and all the little extras you provide without doubt make it what it is - a fabulous getaway in an idyllic setting. Certainly with your place the minute we turned the key in the front door we relaxed and could enjoy ourselves. The presence of the open fire in the living room was the icing on the cake for us, nothing nicer than coming in from a long walk on the Burren and being able to sit with a glass of wine in front of a roaring open fireplace.

Ballyvaughan is a little bit of heaven! The town is perfectly situated in Clare, near to Galway and Shannon Airport. The house is modern and quaint. Clean and well kept...a short walk to the village . My heart remains in Ballyvaughan and Knocknagrough. I recommend without reservation.
